Cowbird

KIND OF ANIMAL: Bird

FOOD
Cowbirds look for seeds and insects when they are hungry.

ENEMIES
Owls and hawks hunt for cowbirds.
So do weasels, foxes, and housecats.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Cowbirds feel at home in fields and on farms.
They also like to be near woods and lawns.
You may even see a cowbird outside your house.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Cowbirds are not shy. They lay their eggs in other birds' nests. They will even take out another bird’s egg and put one of their own in its place.
  • The cowbird got its name because it likes to follow cows. They pick up any food the cows kick up when they walk.
