Grasshopper

KIND OF ANIMAL: Insect

FOOD
Grasshoppers are plant-eaters.

ENEMIES
Birds eat grasshoppers.
So do lizards and other small animals like bats, squirrels, mice and moles.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Grasshoppers live near woods and fields. You will also find them in marshes.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Grasshoppers are super jumpers. They have huge back legs. Some grasshoppers can jump 200 times the length of their bodies.
  • Chomp, chomp, chomp! That is the sound of grasshoppers’ jaws hard at work. They eat the food that farmers plant. This makes the farmers mad.
  • Male grasshoppers sound like they are singing. They make their song by rubbing their back legs on their wings.
