Indigo Bunting

KIND OF ANIMAL: Bird

FOOD
The indigo bunting eats insects.
It also eats seeds and fruit.

ENEMIES
Meat-eating birds like owls and hawks hunt for buntings.
Foxes and weasels eat them, too.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Buntings live on the edges of forests.
They live in fields and bushes.
You might also see one alongside a road.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • A male indigo bunting looks different on a sunny day and a cloudy day. On a cloudy day, its feathers look shiny, dark, grayish-black. On a sunny day, its feathers look bright blue when they flash in the sunlight. The female’s feathers are light brown.
  • Indigo buntings help humans by eating lots of insects and weed seeds.
