KIND OF ANIMAL: Bird

FOOD
Orioles eat lots of insects.
They really like caterpillars.
They also eat fruit and nectar, the sugar juice that plants make.

ENEMIES
Owls and hawks hunt orioles.
So do weasels, foxes and cats.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Orioles like open spaces of land, near woods and forests.
They also live near houses, in parks and yards.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • There are lots of different kinds of orioles. You’ve probably heard of the Baltimore Oriole, which has a famous baseball team named after it.
  • Many male birds have brighter colors than female birds. The male Baltimore Oriole has a bright orange body and a black head and back. The female’s feathers are not very bright.
