KIND OF ANIMAL: Bird

FOOD
Red-tailed hawks are meat-eaters.
They eat other birds.
They eat small animals like mice.
They eat lizards and insects.

ENEMIES
As people take over more land for houses, the hawks lose their homes.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Hawks live in places with open space.
They live around farms and grasslands and
in parks.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • When you see a hawk gliding in the sky, it may look like it is just hanging there. It is riding the wind.
  • Red-tailed hawks can see things from very far away. They can spot a mouse from high in the sky. This helps make them such good hunters.
  • You can see hawks now in the city too. They sit high on buildings and hunt for rats and squirrels. They also eat leftover food that people leave behind.
