KIND OF ANIMAL: Bird

FOOD
The red-winged blackbird eats insects and seeds.

ENEMIES
The red-winged blackbird must watch out for hungry hunting birds.
Foxes and weasels may try to eat them too.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Red-winged blackbirds like to live near water.
You will find them in marshes.
They also live in rice fields, corn fields, and parks.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Many male birds have brighter colors than female birds. The male red-winged blackbird catches your eye as it flies by. It has a bright red patch on its wing. The rest of its body is shiny black.
  • Female red-winged blackbirds are brown. This helps them hide when they are sitting on their eggs.
