KIND OF ANIMAL:
Bird
|
FOOD
Rock doves are not picky eaters.
They eat seeds and insects.
They also eat whatever food scraps they can find. |
|
ENEMIES
Hawks and owls hunt for rock doves.
So do foxes and weasels.
In cities, there are so many of these birds that people think they are pests and try to
kill them. |
|
WHERE THEY LIVE
Rock doves live on city streets and in parks.
They can also be found around bridges and farms, and nesting on cliffs. |
|
|
DID YOU KNOW?
- Most people call rock doves by their other name,
pigeons.
- They used to live on cliffs. Now many of them use
skyscrapers as their cliffs.
- In the past, people used them to carry messages.
This was because pigeons are good at finding their way home.
