FOOD
Hummingbirds sip nectar from flowers. Nectar is the sugar juice that plants make. They also eat very small insects.

ENEMIES
Meat-eating birds may make a snack of a hummingbird.
Some small mammals may hunt for them too.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Ruby-throated hummingbirds live where there are flowers.
You may see them at the edge of the forest or in the bushes.
They like to visit flower gardens.

 

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Both male and female ruby-throated hummingbirds have bright green backs. Only the males have ruby red throats.
  • Hummingbirds are the smallest birds. They move their wings very fast. They flap them about 50 times each minute!
