KIND OF ANIMAL: Bird

FOOD
Wood thrushes love insects and bugs.
They eat worms and fruit too.

ENEMIES
Wood thrushes must watch out for owls and hawks.
They must be careful of foxes and weasels, too.
Cowbirds hurt thrushes by stealing their eggs.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Wood thrushes live in the forest.
They live in places with a lot of bushes too.

DID YOU KNOW?
  • The wood thrush likes to stay in the shade. It sings at dawn before the sun is up. It sings in the evening when the sun goes down. In the day, it is quiet.
  • There are fewer and fewer wood thrushes. One reason is the cowbird. Cowbirds steal the wood thrushes' eggs. They put their own eggs in the wood thrushes' nests. Lots of baby cowbirds hatch, but not very many baby wood thrushes.
