FOOD
Mourning doves are plant eaters.
They look for seeds and grain.

ENEMIES
Humans hunt for mourning doves.
So do owls and hawks.
Mourning doves also have to watch out for foxes, weasels and cats.

WHERE THEY LIVE
Mourning doves live in fields and parks.
You will also find them near houses or apartment buildings.

  • The mourning dove has a sad call that repeats like an owl’s call.
  • Many people like to hunt for mourning doves.
  • Mourning doves don’t have to tip their heads back when they drink like most birds. They can sip water up through their beaks like a straw.
