FOOD
These woodpeckers dig carpenter ants out from the trunks of trees.
They eat other insects and fruit too.

ENEMIES
Only the largest meat-eating birds hunt pileated woodpeckers.

WHERE THEY LIVE
These woodpeckers live in the forest and in large parks with lots of trees.

 

DID YOU KNOW?
  • Pileated woodpeckers are the biggest woodpeckers. They can grow as big as 2 feet tall.
  • If you hear a “chop-chop” in the forest, it might be a woodpecker hunting for lunch.
  • These woodpeckers have tongues shaped like spears. They use their tongues to dig insects out of trees.
