DESCRIPTION
  • Black flies are small, bloodsucking insects which are also known as “buffalo gnats” and “turkey gnats.”
  • Black flies are most common in May and June. In some places they are major pests for campers and farmers . Only the female sucks blood. Black flies are not very picky, and will feed on humans, farm animals, pets, poultry and wild animals. Their bites are extremely itchy.
  • Females lay their eggs on rocks in rivers and streams.
