Grasshoppers are insects with oversized back legs
which make them powerful jumpers. Some grasshoppers can jump 200 times the length of their
bodies. Most have wings but are not very good at flying.
Chomp, chomp! Grasshoppers can do a lot of damage
to crops by their mouths which are made for biting and chewing plants.
Male grasshoppers sing their chirping song by
rubbing their hind legs against their wings.
