DESCRIPTION
  • The gray jay is also known as the Canada jay and the “whiskey jack.” This comes from its Native American name “wis-ka-chon.” They are also called “camp robber” because they hang around campsites and steal as much food as they can.
  • Gray jays have an unusual way of storing their food. They take bits of meat and suet (beef fat) and use their saliva to glue them into little balls. They hide the balls among pine needles.
