In bright sunlight, a male indigo bunting is a
startling iridescent blue color. However, in poor light, they may look black. The females
are a dull brown.
In spring and early summer you may spot a male
indigo bunting perched at the top of a tree singing. Indigo buntings keep on singing in
the heat of the day, when other birds have stopped.
Indigo buntings eat many insect pests and weed
seeds.
