DESCRIPTION
  • Although it is a protected species in some places, in much of North America there are plenty of mourning doves. This is because a mother dove may raise as many as five sets of babies each year. They may build their nests on the ground or in trees.
  • Mourning doves are popular birds to hunt in many states.
  • Most birds need to tip their heads back to swallow water, but a mourning dove can sip it up through its beak.
