DESCRIPTION
  • Both scarlet tanager and summer tanager males are a brilliant red in color. The scarlet tanager lives mostly in the northern states and has black wings. The summer tanager lives mostly in the southern states. The females are greenish-yellow, as are the males in the winter.
  • Tanagers like to come to birdbaths to drink and splash.
  • The female scarlet tanager does all the nest building and sitting, with no help from the male.
