Both scarlet tanager and summer tanager males are a
brilliant red in color. The scarlet tanager lives mostly in the northern states and has
black wings. The summer tanager lives mostly in the southern states. The females are
greenish-yellow, as are the males in the winter.
Tanagers like to come to birdbaths to drink and
splash.
The female scarlet tanager does all the nest
building and sitting, with no help from the male.
