DESCRIPTION
The belted kingfisher is on the back of the
Canadian $5 bill.
When fishing, the kingfisher often hovers before
diving into the water to catch a fish. It often takes fish that it has caught, thumps it
on its perch, tosses it into the air, then catches and swallows it.
Kingfishers have an unusual nest. They use their
shovel-shaped beaks to dig a long tunnel into a bank which ends in a nesting chamber.
There are members of the kingfisher family world
wide.
