DESCRIPTION
  • Most of the time earthworms live their lives out of sight. They dig underground tunnels and come up only at night to feed. This is why they are sometimes called night-crawlers.
  • Earthworms were brought to North America by settlers from Europe.
  • They have been very successful here!
  • Earthworms help forests, farms and gardens. They break down the bits of dead plant and animal matter in the soil so that the nutrients can be recycled. This makes the soil more fertile and helps plants grow.
