DESCRIPTION
  • The red-tailed hawk is one of the most commonly seen birds of prey on the Appalachian trail. When you see them soaring in the open sky, they almost look like they are not moving.
  • Red-tailed hawks are extraordinary hunters. Their sharp vision helps them spot their prey from as high as 400 feet.
  • Like peregrine falcons, red-tailed hawks are now seen in cities. Here they search for rats, squirrels, and the leftovers from your lunch, and nest on building ledges instead of in trees.
