DESCRIPTION
  • Most people know the rock dove by its more common name, pigeon. They were brought to the U.S. from England in the 1600s.
  • One of their original habitats was cliffs, which is why they like cities with a lot of skyscrapers. In some cities, there are so many pigeons that they are considered a nuisance.
  • Pigeons have been used to carry messages over great distances. People still raise them for their homing ability.
  • Most pigeons are shades of gray, but some are white or reddish-brown.
