September 26 - A Foxy Grandma! Who Can Cook Too!

Entering Vermont, George and I knew that Nicole Fosse, the beautiful dancer who had studied and danced with my daughters, was going to meet us on the Trail - we were just not sure exactly where. "Don't worry", she said, "I know the Trail". Coming over a rise I suddenly saw a lovely young woman, sitting on a rock in "The Lotus Position", feeding and cooing to her 4 month-old baby. This was Nicole - the ease and natural beauty of the scene just took my breath away.

Nicole had hiked into the Trail to meet us and has fruit juice and goodies ready to refresh us in her Jeep parked just down the road. She drove us to her beautiful home to met her husband, 2 other gorgeous children and to meet her charming mother, Gwen Verdon, the legendary star of stage and screen, who happened to be visiting that week. I will admit I am a bit "star struck" by Gwen - she is just so WONDERFUL! And what does she do? She starts cooking for me! Boiling up beautiful shrimp...filling my glass with wine, fussing over me! It was overwhelming! What a welcome! and that dinner we had! Such fun! Old stories about Nicole's father (the late Bob Fosse) and sharing embarrassing moments we had all experienced on stage. George and I got back on the Trail with wonderful memories - such love - such fun! Thank you Nicole.
