There
are lots of deer
out here. Most of the time as you walk along, you will
hear a noise in the leaves, spot them, and they will
bolt away. But every now and then as you hike along,
in areas without so many rocks, you're mind wanders as
you just stroll along. You come upon a deer that
didn't smell you or didn't hear you coming and it is
right on the trail or very close to the trail and
suddenly it notices you are there. And you haven't
seen it.. And it JUMPS. And it makes you JUMP. And it
darts off into the woods. Then your heart gets calmer
and you realize it's a deer and not a big bear
attacking you, and you watch the deer move gracefully
through the woods. At that point it has a calming
effect, and you are awestruck that you are able to get
so close to a deer in the wilderness without it even
knowing you are there.
