Red Squirrel

HABITAT:
Pine and spruce forests

 


DESCRIPTION

  • Red squirrels look similar to the more common gray squirrel, except that they are a little smaller and have rusty colored fur. They also have ear tufts.
  • Red squirrels prefer to live by themselves. They come together only to mate.
  • Red squirrels often bury pine cones. In the winter, they dig up the cones and feed on the pine seeds.
